1. Family: A Love That Grows

Families come in all shapes and sizes, but what makes a family truly special? This presentation encourages students to explore the idea that family is defined not by biology but by love, kindness, and support. Using examples from The Truth About Stepmoms, we’ll create a class “family tree” that celebrates the different types of families students are part of. Students will discuss the recipe for family and share what special ingredients make a family unique and wonderful.

2.Big Feelings

What happens when something important goes missing? Elle’s emotional journey in Finding Bunny is a perfect opportunity to explore emotions like sadness, frustration, and joy. This presentation invites kids to identify their own feelings, share experiences, and learn strategies for managing big emotions through storytelling and fun activities like emotions detector and drawing their feelings.

3. Courage & The Power of Imagination

Fear can seem overwhelming, but what if you could turn it into something magical? In this session, we’ll explore what bravery really means. Students will discover the power of imagination and how it can help overcome fears, such as being afraid of the dark. We’ll explore self-discovery and courage through storytelling and hands-on activities like creating a bravery cape and learning the 5,4,3,2,1…calm technique.

4. Building Empathy Through Storytelling

Through the lens of Elle’s and Via’s stories, we’ll discuss social-emotional learning and how books help us understand others' feelings and perspectives. Students will engage in activities like the kindness challenge and discuss how they can show kindness at school or home. This session will include engaging storytelling moments and opportunities for students to reflect on their own friendships and relationships.

7. Imagine Big: A Story Awaits in the Dark

What happens when the lights go out? What kind of magical world appears in your room? This creative writing workshop invites students to explore their imagination and craft their own stories. Students will draw their room as it looks in the light and reimagine it in the dark, adding all the fantastical elements they can dream up. Then, they’ll write their own imaginative tale about what happens in their room when the lights go out. With inspiration from Emma’s journey in Imagine That!, students will learn that imagination and creativity go hand in hand.

5. Creating Character Magic

In this exciting session, we'll embark on a creative journey into the world of storytelling by focusing on character building. Characters are the heart and soul of any story. During this session students will have the opportunity to craft their very own unique character. Through this engaging and interactive activity, they will learn the importance of characters in writing and discover how they can make your stories come to life.

8. Becoming a Book Reviewer

Do you have a favorite part of a book that made you laugh, cry, or think? This presentation gives students the chance to become book reviewers! After listening to engaging readings of Finding Bunny, Imagine That!, and The Truth About Stepmoms, students will learn how to share their thoughts using a kid-friendly Book Review template. Activities include rating the book with stars, drawing their favorite scene, and writing their review. This session encourages students to think critically, express their opinions, and celebrate the joy of storytelling.

6. Stuffy Friends: The Comfort of Friendship

In this heartwarming presentation, students will celebrate friendship by bringing their favorite stuffed friend from home. Through storytelling, students will learn about the importance of friendship and connection, inspired by Elle’s story in Finding Bunny. Activities include the "Me and My Stuffy" activity where students draw a picture of their special friend, describe what makes them unique, and share their favorite memories.

For Grades: 2-4, the presentation expands to focus on meaningful friendships and personal connections. Students will write about someone in their life who inspires them, describing why that person is special and how they’ve impacted their life.

9. COMING SOON: Turning Stories into Plays

What if you could bring a book to life on stage? In this dynamic and interactive session, students will transform The Truth About Stepmoms into their own theatrical production. After a lively read-aloud of the story, students will collaborate to assign roles, adapt scenes, and create dialogue based on the book. Each student will have a part to play—encouraging teamwork and creativity.

Students will rehearse and perform their play for their peers or even for other classes, gaining confidence, practicing public speaking, and experiencing the magic of storytelling in a whole new way. This session is perfect for fostering collaboration, imagination, and an appreciation for the performing arts.
